About
A Family Business
The Schuett Companies is a family owned and managed business. We understand the importance of home and the role that it plays in providing the foundation for a healthy life. Our passion is to provide homes and services to families and seniors in every community we serve.
The History of Schuett Companies
In the late 1960s, Jack Schuett founded The Schuett Investment Company, which later evolved into The Schuett Companies, Inc. as he expanded his business. With a faith-driven vision to provide beautiful, clean, and safe housing for those in the greatest need, Jack emerged as an affordable housing pioneer. Over his career, he syndicated, developed, and managed more than 5,000 multi-family units across over 50 partnerships, creating one of the largest portfolios in the state at the time. Addressing a critical issue, Jack’s efforts brought integral solutions that bridged the gap in a nation struggling with a growing divide in economic mobility. The Tax Reform Act of 1986 replaced the Section 8 program with the LIHTC program, prompting Jack to sell many properties as investor partners sought to liquidate their investments. By 2012, the portfolio had been reduced to just over 1,000 units. However, the company’s mission to provide quality affordable housing remained strong.
In 2011, Tom Schuett, Jack’s son, assumed the role of President and CEO of The Schuett Companies. Under his leadership, the company has added over 500 units, including fee-managed properties and an assisted living facility, Flourish, located in Golden Valley.
By focusing on providing quality housing to seniors, The Schuett Companies vision for supporting vulnerable populations continues as they address a vital need: 70% of individuals age 65 and older will require some form of long-term care during their lifetime (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2021).
That same year, The Schuett Companies launched its sister company, CompassionCare, dedicated to providing compassionate care and services to elderly and disabled residents throughout The Schuett Companies’ portfolio. This initiative resonates with the 90% of seniors who prefer to age in place (AARP, 2021) and contributes to reducing the 50% risk of falls experienced by seniors living in non-supportive housing environments (Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, 2021).
Today, The Schuett Companies, CompassionCare, and Flourish collectively employ over 100 full-time and part-time staff members, all dedicated to empowering independence and enhancing lives. As they continue to grow, both The Schuett Companies and CompassionCare remain devoted to expanding their portfolios, services, and workforce to create a positive and lasting impact in the communities they serve. By building safe and quality homes, creating restorative environments, and uniting communities, The Schuett Companies is making a difference in addressing the affordable housing crisis, closing the gap and doing so in a way that is dignifying and supportive for those that need it most.
